Are inhibitory synaptic conductances on thalamic relay neurons inhomogeneous? Are synapses from individual a!erents clustered?

چکیده
Standard and dynamic current clamps were used to emulate dendritic GABA-Aergic postsynaptic currents (IPSCs) in a reconstructed thalamic relay neuron. The variability of somatically recorded single events was an order of magnitude smaller than reported in experimental work, suggesting that experimentally observed variability of miniature IPSCs re#ects variable synaptic strength rather than "ltering. Additionally, to evoke physiologic unitary-IPSCs at 0.8 probability-of-release, it was necessary to partially cluster synapses. This induced nonlinear summation * bringing unitary amplitudes down to the observed range. We conclude that synaptic strength is inhomogeneous and that inhibitory a!erents might form synapses in clusters. ( 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

متن کاملMorphology and Synaptic Organization of Non-Dopaminergic Nigral Projections to the Medio Dorsal Thalamic Nucleus of the Rat, a Study by Anterograde Transport of PHA-L
Background: Mediodorsal (MD) thalamic nucleus, which is considered to take place between extra pyramidal and limbic feedback circuit, receives projective fibers from ventrolateral neurons of reticular part of substantia nigra (SNr). In order to better understand the influence and chemical reaction of these fibers upon MD nucleus, the morphology and synaptology of them were examined in the prese...
متن کاملTarget-dependent control of synaptic inhibition by endocannabinoids in the thalamus.
Inhibitory neurons in the thalamic reticular nucleus (TRN) play a critical role in controlling information transfer between thalamus and neocortex. GABAergic synapses formed by TRN neurons contact both thalamic relay cells and neurons within TRN. These two types of synapses are thought to have distinct roles for the generation of thalamic network activity, but their selective regulation is poor...
متن کاملElectrical synapses in the thalamic reticular nucleus.
Neurons of the thalamic reticular nucleus (TRN) provide inhibitory input to thalamic relay cells and generate synchronized activity during sleep and seizures. It is widely assumed that TRN cells interact only via chemical synaptic connections. However, we show that many neighboring pairs of TRN neurons in rats and mice are electrically coupled. In paired-cell recordings, electrical synapses wer...
متن کاملNetwork and neuronal membrane properties in hybrid networks reciprocally regulate selectivity to rapid thalamocortical inputs.
Rapidly changing environments require rapid processing from sensory inputs. Varying deflection velocities of a rodent's primary facial vibrissa cause varying temporal neuronal activity profiles within the ventral posteromedial thalamic nucleus. Local neuron populations in a single somatosensory layer 4 barrel transform sparsely coded input into a spike count based on the input's temporal profil...
